SKEMA's campuses in Brazil and USA plan exciting activities to welcome new students

Published on 22 September 2023

SKEMA Business School’s Belo Horizonte (Brazil) and Raleigh (USA) campuses completed the orientation sessions for new students a few weeks ago. It gave students the opportunity to discover the unique features of their campus, the various student associations, and the internship and job options available to them.

Belo Horizonte: students receive essential advice

Upon their arrival on the Belo Horizonte campus, international students received a geography, history, and general culture class on Minas Gerais, its capital Belo Horizonte, and Brazil. After that, Geneviève Poulingue, the campus director, presented the programmes, sustainability projects, as well as coordinators and members of the Student Office team.

During this information session, Brazil's federal security forces also provided students with advice and tips to ensure a trouble-free stay in the country. In September, an informative session was also organised to raise awareness on violence against women. Finally, a capoeira group gave a captivating performance and the students discovered the student associations through fun activities.

Raleigh: solidarity, entrepreneurship, and more

On the Raleigh campus, students began their classes on 22 August. This year, our students are from about 20 different countries, representing all continents. After a general presentation of the campus and student-dedicated services by Gisa Rollin, development director of the Raleigh campus, the students were given a presentation on professional opportunities in the United States and career guidance by Amanda Chamberlain, head of the Talent & Careers service on campus.

Mitchell Weisberg, entrepreneurship professor and manager of SKEMA Ventures (SKEMA's incubator-accelerator), then spoke about the support mechanisms available to student entrepreneurs in Raleigh. By the end of the day, students explored the dozen SKEMA associations present on the campus and the student clubs from NC State University.

To foster interaction among students, an "International Festival" has been organised in September for raising funds to help the victims of the earthquake in Morocco.
